They are very messy, but I love the colors.
I gave these as a gift to my niece, who is probably a little young for such nice coloring implements. Young, as in, her mom wouldn't let her try the water on them to change them to watercolors. She does like them and says they are very pretty. I think these are probably for a more serious artist, and I'm going to try to persuade my sister to let my niece do the water thing with them, because that just sounds cool.
I picked these up for my wife who likes to draw and color in her spare time, she gave me the following feedback
Great color selection, the colors are vibrant and really pop
Very smooth to use, they glide across the surface
They're water soluble
Some of the things she didn't like
Blending wasn't as easy as she would have liked
Tough to get very fine lines with them
I was unfamiliar with gel stick crayons until recently. Now I'm hooked on them. They have the most vibrant colors and they are so creamy they go on smoothly. They can be used on several types of media including glass, paper, canvas or wood. You can change the effect by adding a bit of water on a brush. The come in a reusable storage case. They have a different look than crayons; the look is softer and deeper. These are really not something I would give to a child. I use them in my crafting.
My daughter and I loved experimenting with drawing and coloring with these gel crayons. It feels almost like you are working with lipstick. We had fun taking napkins and blending the colors which worked beautifully. The downside is the color also smears on hands and tables if you aren't careful and the crayons are very thick at the head so you will not be able to do fine lines at all.
For the right use these will work great. But you need to have a particular type of use where fine lines are not needed and where there is not a concern about smearing.
